This from California's Governor, who probably had other things on his mind yesterday, marking the death of three slain California soldiers:
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today released the following statement regarding the deaths of Maj. Gerald M. Bloomfield II of Ypsilanti, MI and Capt. Michael D. Martino, of Fairfax VA.
"Maria and I are deeply saddened by the grave news of Maj. Bloomfield and Capt. Martino's deaths. These two valiant Marines went beyond the call of duty in protecting our freedoms and it is our responsibility to do our civic duty to pay tribute to their sacrifice. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families during this painful time."
Bloomfield, 38, and Martino, 32, died Nov. 2 when their AH-1W Cobra helicopter crashed while flying in support of security stabilization operations near Ar Ramadi, Iraq. Both Marines were with Marine Light-Attack Helicopter Squadron 369, Marine Aircraft Group 39, Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, CA. During operation Iraqi Freedom, their unit was attached to 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, II MEF. This crash is currently under investigation.
In honor of Bloomfield and Martino, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
